Ljubljana, 3rd October, 2013. In addition to the presentation of some major R&D projects, three Slovenian R&D centres, RC31 Ltd., INTECH-LES Ltd. and RACE GOGO Ltd., presented the results of their activities on the third, well-attended forestry-wood industry R&D day, which was held at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre in the context of the accompanying activities at the Ambient Ljubljana furniture fair. They presented the results of their current development activities and their future plans. The opening address was delivered by Sabina Koleša, the Director General of the Directorate for Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Technology at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. RC31 participated in the final panel discussion entitled “Does the forest-wood sector have its place in the policies, development and operational documents, representing the grounds for using development and investment funds in the next EU financial perspective 2014-2020?” The panel discussion was chaired by Prof. Dr. Miha Humar and attended by the representatives of the ministry and development institutes. In an interesting and at times controversial panel discussion, the participants highlighted a series of obstacles and opportunities for a better cooperation between the companies and R&D institutions in the field of development. They also spoke about the smart specialization strategies and other strategic and programme documents. By all means, the forestry-wood sector and wood itself are the country’s priorities but we must be able to cooperate and develop the skills and competencies to prepare and implement good projects in order to access the EU and national public funds to foster development. The event organizers also prepared a brochure on more than 70 current R&D projects in the forestry-wood sector.
